Video: SST Slips A Tremec T56 Magnum Into A ’70 Challenger R/T

How long does it take to install a Tremec 6-speed in a ’70 Challenger R/T? Just 1 minute and 49 seconds! Well, at least that’s how long the YouTube video is. There might be some TV magic at play, but it’s more than enough time for Silver Sport Transmissions (SST) to hit the highlights and show just how easy it is to fit Tremec’s double overdrive gearbox in your classic Mopar.

The star of the show is the Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed PerfectFit package. Sporting a 37% overdrive, the T56 can make your steep set of 4.56’s feel like economy car 2.87 gears when you slide into sixth. And the PerfectKit is aptly named because it includes everything you need to go from low gear gas guzzler to double OD daily driver.

If the video moves a little too quickly for you, the installation manual is there to help with sixteen pages of incredibly detailed instructions ranging from pre-installation checks, to tunnel modifications, to bolt torque specifications and more. Notice that once the installation is complete, nary a passerby will be able to tell that the signature pistol grip is rowing two extra gears. Even the factory console fits unsuspectingly into place so you don’t lose storage space for that Grand Funk Railroad 8-track.

Don’t forget that SST has a wide range of transmission options available for ’64-’76 A-bodies, ’62-’74 B-bodies, and ’70-’74 E-bodies. Give them a call at (865) 609-8187 to see if the TKO 5-speed, the Magnum 6-speed, or the A41 automatic is right for you.
