FuelTech’s electronic control unit (ECU) catalog is deep and wide with something to fit just about anyone’s application and price point. At the bottom of that range is the FT450, basic yet powerful, and currently starting at just $699. At the top is the almighty FT700PLUS which is more like a gold-plated 10-pound Swiss Army knife.
To start, there are two FuelTech ECU lines: Power FT and Vision FT. The aforementioned entry level FT450 falls under Power FT and has 10 outputs plus 7 inputs. It’s generally suited for something with a smaller engine and control scheme like a junior dragster or simple wasted spark engine.
With 24 outputs and 14 inputs, the FT550 is a significant step up from that. A screenless version, the FT550LITE, is available for those who want to prioritize function over flash. Next is FT600. “This is the big dog unit of the Power FT lineup. This is normally what you would see in an NHRA Pro Mod car,” says Jacob Gaddis, Tech Support Supervisor.
After that, options bump up to the Vision FT group which includes the FT700 and FT700PLUS. An incredible 36 inputs and 50 outputs are augmented by four CAN networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VE tuning, and on-screen data logging.
