When the gas pedal hits the floor and the tires start to turn, many Challenger, Charger, and Ram owners aren’t giving much thought to spare parts availability. That’s okay because FCA has it covered. They have it so covered that some of their parts distribution centers (PDC’s) are being recognized for their accomplishments.

The Winchester, Virginia facility, opened in April of 2017, recently reached Bronze status in the World Class Logistics (WCL) program. According to the press release, “[the] WCL program recognizes facilities that meet set technical and managerial pillars in reducing waste and improving quality.”

The report goes on to explain that, “the Winchester facility has been able to reduce operating costs through continuous improvement projects and effectively expand its systematic pillars of Safety, Workplace Organization, Autonomous Maintenance, Professional Maintenance and Logistics & Customer Service, far exceeding the WCL Bronze level criteria of 30 percent extension. […] The quick recognition was thanks in the large parts to efforts undertaken during the construction and development phase of the PDC to ensure it was designed to meet WCL technical and managerial pillars.”

Incredibly, the Winchester PDC is a massive 400,000-plus square-foot warehouse that ships more than 9 million parts per year, services more than 200 FCA dealers in the US, and employees more than 70 people. At a $12.2 million initial investment, this PDC is one of 23 across the United States. It’s the second US-based PDC to earn Bronze status this year as the Center Line, Michigan facility already accomplished the same feat in May of this year.
