Gallery: 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel Packs Monster Cummins Power

The modern Ram 2500 Power Wagon was introduced back in 2005 and since then, this package has stood as the most off-road-capable truck in the 3/4-ton segment with Hemi power. Although the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter Hemi engines have both provided plenty of power for off-road fun, the most powerful engine in the Ram HD lineup – the Cummins Turbo Diesel – has never been offered in the Power Wagon even though many prospective buyers called for a diesel version. That all changes for the 2027 model year with the introduction of the Ram Power Wagon Diesel, which comes standard with 1,075 lb-ft of torque.

“Customers have been telling us for years to put the Cummins in the Power Wagon,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, NA Marketing and Retail Strategy. “And if our recent product announcements have shown anything, it’s that Ram is giving customers a choice and the trucks they want. Matching the Power Wagon with the Cummins turbo diesel delivers everything our hardcore Ram fans expect: off-road capability with the best diesel in the HD segment. It’s the Power Wagon they’ve been waiting for.”

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel comes standard with the 6.7-liter high output Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine, delivering 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. That monstrous engine is mated to the TorqueFlite HD 8-speed automatic transmission and beefy solid front and rear axles with 38-spine rear axle shafts, 3.42 gears and electronic locking differentials – a combination which Stellantis states will tow nearly 20,000 pounds with help from the new fifth-wheel gooseneck preparation kit and available Automatic-Leveling Rear Air-Suspension system. The new Power Wagon Diesel is also expected to haul nearly 3,000 pounds, but exact towing and hauling capacities have not been announced yet.

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel packs gobs of power to perform well on the jobsite, but it also comes with an array of features that make it the most off-road-capable truck in the 3/4-ton (or heavier) world. Like the gas version, the new Ram Power Wagon Diesel showcases the class-exclusive five-link coil rear suspension with unique Bilstein monotube shocks and specially tuned coil springs, a class-exclusive electronic disconnecting sway bar and a Bilstein rear axle damper, all of which help this big pickup climb over or through just about any obstacle.

Skid plates cover all of the important components that could be damaged by rocks while off-roading, but the combination of the suspension setup and the 20-inch wheels wrapped in 34-inch all-terrain tires provide 13.2 inches of ground clearance. The Power Wagon Diesel also offers an approach angle of 26.1 degrees, a departure angle of 26 degrees and a breakover angle of 20.6 degrees, but thanks to all of those skid plates, any sharper breakover situations won’t tear up anything essential under the truck.

The 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel is expected to reach dealerships in the second-half of 2026 and when it does, it will carry a starting price with destination of $88,470. It will only be offered as a Crew Cab with the 6’4” bed and key standard features include a heated front cloth bench seat, a 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system, an integrated trailer brake controller and a ton of safety systems, including the ParkView rear backup camera system with dynamic gridlines, the ParkSense front and rear park assist system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage, Pedestrian Detection and Rear Cross Path Detection.

For those who want more luxury from their 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel, optional upgrades include leather seats with heated-and-cooled leather seating with front buckets and heated outboard rear positions, the 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment touchscreen, the Front Passenger Interactive Display, Towing Technology Group, Tow Technology Plus Group and either a 9-speaker Alpine system or a 17-speaker Harman Kardon system.

When the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel arrives later this year, it will be available solely as a crew cab with the 6’4” bed and, of course, four-wheel-drive is standard. With the standard interior features mentioned above, the 2027 Ram Power Wagon Diesel carries a starting MSRP of $88,470 (including destination).
