Though short-lived, the SRT-4 Dodge Neon platform is still making waves on drag strips two decades after a three-year production run. Roughly 25,000 of the turbocharged four cylinders were produced, far exceeding initial projections for what ended up being a really fun stick shift car with a healthy power-to-weight ratio.
In stock form, the SRT Neon was good for about 14 seconds at 100 mph in the quarter mile. With help from FuelTech, Jerrad Dail’s 2005 Dodge Neon has taken more than 5 seconds off of that. So far, the personal best stands at 8.94 and 172 mph in Sport Front-Wheel-Drive (SFWD) trim.
It’s purportedly just the third SRT-4 to ever dip into the eights, thanks in part to a blistering 1,100 horsepower out of its four little pistons that could. Control comes courtesy of a FuelTech FT550 ECU, a popular choice for smaller displacement applications.
That controller is helped by a bunch of FuelTech’s awesome accessories like the WB-O2 Nano, strain gauge, boost controller, and a multitude of pressure sensors. Brutal Speed & Tuning has the vitals all dialed in for the first race of the season, the Import Face-Off, coming up at Rockingham Dragway in March. Here’s to hoping this Neon lights it up!
