FuelTech’s in-house hub dyno gets a pretty good workout at their Ball Ground, Georgia facility. Built to handle four-digit horsepower, the hub dyno connects directly to the wheel hubs as a safer and more accurate way of measuring an engine’s muscle.
When Colby Davis brought his Dodge Charger Hellcat down for a test ‘n’ tune, rest assured this thing wasn’t exactly fresh off the lot and still under warranty. While it’s an original Hellcat by VIN, the supercharger is long gone.
In its place are two 76mm turbos feeding a 411 cubic-inch stroker. Incredibly, a stock BGE (Big Gas Engine) block is the foundation of it all. Even though it’s half-filled for strength, it still proves that the OEM Mopar Hellcat and BGE stuff is stout.
Commanding it all is a FuelTech FT600 EFI system. “The reason why I chose FuelTech was to get away from what everybody else is doing. The FT600 is so easy to read on the car; the software is phenomenal,” Colby says.
Other FuelTech components necessary to venture into the realm of holy cow horsepower are CDI ignition coils (P/N 5001100171), WB-O2 Nano O2 conditioners (P/N 3010003841), EGT-4 CAN module (P/N 5022007368), and FTSPARK-8 ignition system (P/N 5022007546).
The end result was 1,838 horsepower at the hubs. That’s likely more than 2,000 ponies at the crankshaft, nearly three times the rating of a stock 6.2L Hellcat engine. Yep, that ought to shove the Charger’s 4,200 curb weight down the track quite quickly.
