FuelTech’s hub dyno has seem some pretty gnarly combinations come through, many of which are running various flavors of electronic fuel injection (EFI). When Paul Gibbs’ Pro Mod Plymouth ‘Cuda came to town, it gave the FuelTech team the rare opportunity to tune one radical mechanically-injected, Roots-blown powerplant.
Even though this heavy-duty Hemi doesn’t need FuelTech to give it the gas, its FT550 system is still all but necessary to keep tabs on vitals. “It just opens up a huge window for a lot of people to control and data log different things on that type of a combination, proving that you truly don’t need to have EFI on your car to run FuelTech stuff,” says Cameron Lohrmann, FuelTech’s Tech Support Supervisor.
After fixing a shifting issue with the ‘Cuda’s Liberty transmission by installing a FuelTech SwitchPanel, the hubs were hooked up for a few full-throttle runs. The end result was a hefty 2,571 horsepower, equal to about four Hellcat Challengers.
What helped make it possible were the aforementioned FT550 ECU (SKU 3010005496), 750mJ FTSPARK-8 ignition module (SKU 5022007546), EGT-4 CAN (SKU 5022007368), and CDI racing ignition coils (SKU 5001100171).
All work in perfect harmony with the unapologetically old school mechanical injection system to lay down such big, fat power. Paul sums it up by saying, “It’s a high-tech system but if you want to go fast, you’ll have FuelTech on the car. That’s why I chose FuelTech.”
