FuelTech’s catalog of EFI ECUs is deep with a fit for almost every high horsepower application, but the range of accessories that plug in to that performance hardware and software is maybe even more impressive. The variety of sensors alone is pretty imposing with versions for pressure, temperature, speed, RPM, and travel, just to name a few.
In a recent video, tech supervisor Jacob Gaddis did a deep dive on the pressure-related products including the PRO series along with the newer and more entry level line. The most common and universal is the 0-150 psi PRO transducer. It’s commonly used to keep tabs on oil, fuel, coolant, or wastegate pressure.
Similar sensors are available in 0-30, 0-300, 0-500, 0-1,500, and 0-3,000 psi ranges with or without a mating plug kit. The 0-300 might be used to monitor fuel pressure on an extreme boosted engine, the 0-500 could keep tabs on transmission line pressure, and the 0-1,500 would be seen on a nitrous bottle. Brake pressure is pretty much the exclusive use of the 0-3,000.
Also available are transducers that can go below zero psi, more commonly known as vacuum. A pan vacuum or “pan-vac” sensor can read 15 psi of vacuum up to 15 psi of positive pressure. A 10-bar manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor is similar in that it can handle 15 psi of vacuum, but goes up to 135 psi of pressure on the top end. Obviously, its primary target is big boost.
