We here at Mopar Connection are huge fans of ‘feel-good’ stories and absolutely love sharing them with you all. Today’s feel-good story comes courtesy of Frank Somerville of KTVU news and tells us the heartwarming storm of Bob and his love for “The Dukes of Hazzard.”
Bob has Down syndrome and is a die-hard “Dukes of Hazzard” fanatic. Like most of us, Bob enjoys watching the show and fell in love with the General Lee.
Over the past eight years, Bob’s brother Tim has worked very hard building an almost exact replica of The General Lee. Pam Leggero, a family member of Bob and Tim contacted Frank and sent him the pictures you’ll see in the article. Here’s what she wrote to go along with the awesome pictures.
“My nephew Tim Leggero is a mechanic and works with his father and his uncle (my husband) in a family business that has been thriving for close to 100 years!! Tim’s brother Bob has Down syndrome. He is 45 and loves the TV show ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’. He is especially crazy about the car on that show; The General Lee. Eight years ago, Tim bought a 1969 Dodge Charger with a 440 engine and has worked in his spare time to completely restore this car! It is an almost exact replica of the General Lee!! It even has a horn that plays Dixie just like in the TV show.”
Sadly, Bob can’t drive his dream car however he gets immense joy honking the Dixie horn and showing everybody ‘his’ General Lee. Thank you to Frank and Pam for sharing this incredible story of Bob; a true Dukes of Hazzard fan like us.
Not Replica doesn’t Have Rebel flag on roof. It. Just a hot rod thats it. Poor guy
As long as people continue making GL’s out of ’71 Chargers, Fury’s and Coronets, we’re OK calling this American-flagged replica a General Lee.
Nice!
That is not General Lee replica, just a knock off General Lee replica made in China. Someone posted yours on Dukes of Hazzard group in Facebook and members called “Fake General Lee replica”, “this boy should with a real General Lee car” and many overturn your wrong decision about American flag on the top. He is right that is a hot rod.
Chris, how is this ’69 Charger “made in China”? The decal kit? Big friggin’ deal. I’ve personally attended Dukes Fest, and can assure you a large percentage of GLs have Chinese decals. Moreover, many have black interiors, are missing roll bars, have the wrong pushbars, or are simply the wrong dang car. Yeah, the flag is a problem. I agree that the GL had a Confederate “battle flag” is correct. Personal politics spurred the decision to go with Old Glory. This poor guy loves the show, and who are you or anyone in some FB group in ANY place to tell him otherwise. Let this guy have his car without a bunch of Internet trolls trash him. Show some humanity.
Nope you disrespect the Dukes of Hazzard, not us. They trashed you and others who made a fake car with incorrect flag on top. Maybe your senses left you. You are a real troll. Dukes are tednecks not politicians. Speaking of the politicians, THE ACTOR who played as Cooter is a real politician and still support the Confederate falg. You disrespect bmy great great grandfather. One more time you call me a troll, I sue you for a deaf discrimination.
Politically correct but historically incorrect car. Why go through all the time effort and money just to ruin it at the end?
So what, if he sells it some one can change it to their likes!
the Leggero family did something nice for Bob by building him GL, and to protect him from narrow-minded people they made a PC adjustment to the car, only to be trashed by narrow-minded people who should understand why it was done. if they are fans of the show, they should be supporting Bob and congratulating him on having a great car. CONGRATS Bob.
i remember when Warner Brothers (i think) put a big orange piece of thin film over the flag on their copy of the GL. what a ruckus that stirred up. the same uproar happened on diecast forums when AutoWorld did the same thing on a diecast model.
i guess some people never listened when their mother tried to teach them -“if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. either that, or they don’t have a problem disrespecting their mom – geez, some people’s kids…….
