Whether it’s at the track, in the shop, or behind the computer, Blackbird Performance Products has a foot mashed firmly on the go pedal. Feverish work continues behind the scenes on more fantastic G3 Hemi products and we got an exclusive look at just a few.
First off, a low mount alternator bracket for their cast aluminum front cover is likely to be available soon. A 102mm-bodied unit such as the Bosch ALRACE1 is the test subject for now, although a 93mm version like the Powermaster 8172 or Proform 66435 might be a better fit. Either way, it’ll be down and out of the way on the driver’s side.
Finishing details are being pinned down on a timing pointer to fit that same front cover. It’s planned to have some adjustability to fit a few different dampers including some OEM and some aftermarket.
After that, other accessories are on the prospective list such as a high passenger side alternator bracket that will work with a mechanical water pump. The idea would be to have something that lays out along the lines of a traditional Mopar muscle car engine with a single (serpentine) belt going from crankshaft to water pump to alternator. This package would use an off-the-shelf water pump along with any old vintage-style Chrysler alternator, new or otherwise.
Proform is helping with that development via their beautiful Mopar one-wire alternator (P/N 440-471) and aluminum BBC water pump (P/N 68243), although mounting specifics are still being worked out. Their electric water pump lineup has also been tested with the Blackbird cover and looks to be a turnkey fit.
