New American Powertrain TREMEC 5 & 6 Speed Oil Service Packages

You finally got that new TREMEC 5 or 6 speed from American Powertrain fitted in your Mopar and now your headed to Facebook to ask the age old question, “what oil do you use?”. First, stop right there and save yourself a glutton of punishment from the keyboard warriors and even more importantly that you do not receive the wrong information.

The newer TREMEC 5 and 6 speed overdrive transmissions are not the same as that old A-833. You cannot just pour in some gear oil and go on your way. In reality, that would void warranty and that new TREMEC would not last long. So how do you know what you should use and break in that TREMEC correctly?

Great news, American Powertrain has put together a package of all the correct fluids you need to break in that transmission correctly. The new TREMEC Transmission Oil Service Package includes break in fluid, Driven Synchromesh fluid and some Wildwood EXP brake fluid. You can choose either the 5 or 6 speed kit so they will include the proper amount of fluid so you do not have to guess.

They also include a bottle of Wilwood high temperature brake fluid for for your hydraulic clutch. The Wilwood EXP 600 Plus is a high temperature fluid to ensure under extreme scenerarios that your hydraulic throwout bearing will still work.

You might think, do I really need to break-in the transmission? Yes, the new TREMEC has fresh machined gears that still needs a few hundred miles to mesh and wear together which is going to dirty up the fluid. Running the break in fluid will ensure proper lubrication and allow all the gears to mesh together perfectly.

The break-in fluid also does a good job of washing off any contaminants, assembly lubes, etc. that might have been sealed inside the transmission. After 500-1000 miles of driving with the break-in fluid, you will want to drain that fluid and then fill the transmission back up with the Driven STF fluid.

Now you new TREMEC 5 or 6 speed is broken in properly and ready for many more miles on the road. If you have questions about your TREMEC transmission, you can always give the guys at American Powertrain a call.
