These last few weeks – both following and preceding the SEMA Show earlier this month – have delivered on a lot of aftermarket performance items for Mopar enthusiasts that many had on their wish lists. Of which, TCI Auto (part of the Edelbrock/COMP Cams family) rolled out three major upgrades for those running automatic transmissions in their Mopars (particularly the 8HP70) and have placed all of these up on Summit Racing for ease of purchase and delivery.
But before we get into that, let’s touch on the most common “low hanging fruit,” and that’s those running TorqueFlite transmissions. Whether it’s a 727, 904 or even a A-518, Summit now stocks a full array of TCI Trans-Scat Valve Body Kits. Solid, positive shifts without slippage and lag can be yours with just a click of you mouse (or press of your finger). These TCI Trans-Scat kits give improved 2nd-to-3rd gear shifts, and per Summit, “most kits let you hold the transmission in first gear and manually shift to a higher gear. That’s a big plus for street performance or when towing up steep hills.”
And for those who aren’t entirely brand loyal and use “the other guys'” stuff now and again, TCI Trans-Scat Valve Body Kits are available for other brands’ transmissions:
- TH-350/400
- TH-700R-4 and 4L60
- TH-200-4R
- 4L60-E and 4L80-E
- Powerglide
- Ford C4/C6 and AOD
- Torqueflite 727 and 904
- Torqueflite A-500 and A-518
…but wait! There’s more! That’s right, Summit’s got TCI’s Stage 2 Torque Converter for y’all who’ve either got a 5.7L/6.4L Gen III Hemi backed an 8HP70 transmission in their modern Mopar or have done a Hemi conversion. TCI’s new 8HP70 converter offers a stall speed of 3,000-to-3,200rpm. Each converter also comes with an SFI-approved flexplate, making you legal for the race track as well. TCI does recommend if you’re going to use this converter that you consider upgrading to a COMP Cams Stage II HRT camshaft to get the most out of your converter. launches and overall power delivery.
Lastly, TCI Auto just revealed it’s much anticipated 8HP70 Deep Aluminum Pan and Dipstick Kit. One of the very worst aspects of this transmission is ZF’s insistence on being a “sealed transmission.” Well, we Americans want none of that crap – so TCI whipped up this deep cast aluminum pan that is finned for added cooling, allows for an extra quart of ATF, includes a magnetized drain plug for at-home servicing (thank heavens!), and a new provision for a dipstick (which is included in the kit). This is new for 2026 and will be listed on both TCI Auto and Summit Racing shortly.
