If you aren’t keeping up with Blackbird Performance Products’ social media, you’re missing out on some of the baddest G3 Hemi builds going and they’ve got the dyno sheets to prove their mettle.
Now, dyno data isn’t the only thing that matters; it’s much more important to have a combination that is designed with its intended purpose in mind…but dyno sheets are cool and everybody loves them.
The appetizer on this menu was a naturally-aspirated 6.4L-based build packing 420 cubes. It came in with a 715-horsepower first pull but, after simplifying the valvetrain with stock rockers and giving it a thorough tuning, it roared to life. A meaty 838 ponies was the result, similar to a Race Spec 800+ HP.
For the main course, a 1,357-horse lung based on the Race Spec 1,300+ HP spun the shaft. Incredibly, this package is founded upon the same rock-solid BGE block and crankshaft as many of the other Race Spec engines and its 392 cubes made motor music like a finely-tuned orchestra.
A supercharged 422 cubic-incher that topped the 1,500 mark was the after-dinner Tiramisu. “The goal was to keep the [existing] engine low maintenance and reliable as a fast car capable of going many rounds in competition, so we replaced some beat up pistons, put in a Blackbird Performance Mach 3 hydraulic cam, kept the very capable stock rockers and shafts, put some new factory coils on, ported the Whipple 3.0l, put a bigger pulley on it to slow down the blower and keep the boost 20 or less,” said Blackbird’s Geoff Turk.
The proof is in the pudding and, with a combined 3,700 horsepower, these three powerplants are just a peek at what Blackbird’s Hemi kitchen can do. Order up!
