Since picking up our own ’70 Plymouth Fury III convertible project car “Marsha” a few years ago, we’ve developed a sweet spot in our hearts for the big “fuselage years” C-bodies. One very unique example of these Plymouths were the ultra-rare factory V-code 440+6 (440 6-barrell) GT’s exclusive to 1970. Replete with hideaway headlights, bucket seats and some pretty cool (albeit modest) strobe stripes wrapping the entire belt line of these monsters, the Fury GT – when properly equipped – was a rock-solid muscle car.
YouTube creator and Mopar enthusiast shop, Rocket Restorations recently acquired one of these factory rarities (it’s not really theirs, but a customer’s car that they’re preparing for display at this coming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN)) and have been documenting is partial restoration on their YouTube channel. We say “partial” only because some parts are so rare that they’re impossible to replace, and will be, at least for now, left as-is.
As part of its “mad dash to MCACN”, Rocket Restorations’ own Tom Hergert discussed the process with The Auto Archeologist himself, Ryan Brutt who oversees the Barn Finds portion of the show. Brutt wrote in a Facebook post recently, “Tonight I’ll be on my YouTube Channel doing a live with Tom Hergert from Rocket Restorations from 3-4 PM Pacific time (6-7 Eastern) please join us if you can! Going to talk 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury GT’s, MCACN barn finds, lots of fun stuff.” That video is attached below. Be sure to see Ryan’s report from MCACN here on Mopar Connection shortly.
