Video: GEN III Hemi 6-Speed Package from American Powertrain

Today, Hemi Gen III engine transplants into muscle car-era vehicles are a common occurrence. With each passing day, the aftermarket is developing another part to make the swap more straightforward and user-friendly. Although it has been on the market for a while, one exciting option for the enthusiasts that like to row their own is American Powertrain’s T-56 Magnum package for Hemis, including the Hellcat 6.2-liter engine, with flywheel torque up to 1100 lb-ft.

The American Powertrain package comes with a Tremec Magnum 6-speed manual transmission with a particular Stage 2 Extreme Upgrade. The Stage 2 Upgrade includes REM™ and Cryogenic hardened gears. In addition, Stage 2 comes with high-performance synchronizers. The transmission comes with three gear reduction, a direct drive, and two overdrive gears (1st – 2.66:1, 2nd – 1.78:1, 3rd – 1.30:1, 4th – 1:1, 5th – 0.8:1, 6th – 0.63:1).

The package includes a Centerforce DYAD clutch kit fitted with twin friction discs and a billet steel flywheel. ARP fasteners secure the flywheel to the Hemi’s crankshaft. A Quicktime SFI-steel bellhousing with left- or right-hand starter location keeps the clutch safely housed in case of an unfortunate incident.

A Hydramax hydraulic throw-out bearing controls the clutch pressure plate operation, and a custom pilot bearing supports the transmission input shaft. In addition, the transmission has a reverse lockout system, an Energy Suspension transmission mount, and a 31-spline slip yoke designed for a 1350 U-joint. Lastly, the package includes all the mounting hardware, four quarts of transmission fluid, and detailed installation instruction sheets.

The installation of an American Powertrain transmission package dramatically simplifies the electronics required compared to a late-model automatic transmission while pushing the fun factor to the max.
