More than six decades ago, the Chrysler Corporation introduced the Torsion-Aire front suspension. The torsion bar design was different from General Motor’s and Ford’s coil spring short-long arm (SLA) layouts. Chrysler was not the first manufacturer to attempt to use the torsion bar system, but it was the first to incorporate the design across all its model lines.
The successful torsion bar arrangement, whether a longitudinal found on the A, B, C, and E-bodies or the later transverse installed on the f-, j-, and l-bodies, was the mainstay front suspension for Chrysler for decades.
In fact, all Chrysler Co. cars came with the torsion bar front suspension from the late-50s until the front-wheel-drive vehicles eventually replaced all the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) cars in the late-80s. The layout was so robust that except for occasional adjusting of the torsion bars to re-establish proper ride height, the torsion bar arrangement was service-free.
Unfortunately, one component that would fail was the torsion bar seal. There were two reasons for the failure of the seal. First, the rubber could break down due to age, or second, the boot was torn during the removal or installation of a torsion bar. Hence, to resolve either boot concern, Proforged (a Holley company) has introduced its new torsion bar seal and lock kit.
The Proforged seal and lock kit (PN 144-10009) is an exact replacement for the factory original or other replacement seal kits. It includes two rubber seals and two torsion bar locks, which are necessary for one Mopar. The kit works with virtually all ’63-’79 a-, b-, and e-bodies. What sets the Proforged kits above the other kits is the seal kit offers race-inspired products at a sensible budget-friendly price.
In addition, all the components sold by Proforged are engineered, tested, re-evaluated, and subjected to strict quality control procedures. Finally, all Proforged parts come with an industry-leading million-mile limited warranty.
The Proforged website could not be easier to use. Just populate the pull-down boxes with your vehicle’s information to filter the suspension and tool offerings specific to your car. Proforged is constantly adding new products, so even if you do not need a seal and lock kit at this time, check back often.
