It’s rare to get that magical combination of value, function, and form when building an engine. For the Gen III (G3) Hemi crowd, Blackbird Performance is working to cover all three with a growing lineup of performance parts like their newly-released cast aluminum valve covers.
Now, the factory plastic pieces did set the bar pretty low with lackluster material selection and an absolute absence of aesthetics. But the Blackbird covers exceed them in every way possible. The cast aluminum construction is an obvious one, although it’s also important to notice how the external shape and contours are a little more streamlined for sharp looks and easy installation or removal.
On top, a pair of fat -12 AN threaded ports per side can be used for vents, PCV relocation, or an oil fill. Two plugs are included for those that don’t need all four holes. Underneath, there’s enough space for stock or most aftermarket rockers.
Sealing comes via retained O-rings on both the perimeter and spark plug holes. The benefit there is that they should stay in place even if the covers need to come off every now and then. Those O-rings plus bolts are all included.
The best feature might be the one that adds exactly zero power: color selection. Powder coat options include black, silver, or custom. The Blackbird Performance logo is optional, but we’d recommend it. If it doesn’t strike fear into the hearts of your opponents, then your taillights probably will.
