Blackbird Performance’s Afterburner Ignition System for Carbureted G3 Hemis

Despite the third generation Hemi engine being over 21 years old, many are still slow to adopt this highly advanced, advantageous platform as a suitable option for their classic Mopars. The Gen III (or “G3”) Hemi outperforms nearly all “classic” powerplants in deliverable power-to-weight, structural strength, and volumetric efficiency than even it’s very namesake.

It’s for these very reasons that performance innovators like Blackbird Performance Products was quick to adopt the G3 Hemi as its weapon of choice. BPP’s owner, Geoff Turk was the world record holder in 2015 for getting his Drag Pak into the 7’s in NHRA’s Factory Stock Class.

Bringing everything he’s developed for top tier drag racers to the everyday consumer, Blackbird Performance Products offers a cataloge’s worth of products for an array of applications.

One of BPP’s most “slap-yourself-on-the-forehead” products is their Afterburner Ignition System (PT# BBP-014-C) for carbureted G3 Hemis.

Not everybody needs or even wants a supercharged Hellcat, and few want to replace their classic Mopar’s wiring harness to tackle the voltage necessary to operate such a swap. Rather, many are finding huge gains by just building a carbureted 5.7, 6.1 or 392 G3 Hemi over a traditional wedge.

This controller ($749 USD) comes complete with the engine’s wiring harness and modules needed to control factory (or common aftermarket) coil packs; works seamlessly with both 32 and 58-tooth crank tone rings; uses a crank and manifold pressure sensor and is easy to install in most all Hemi-swap applications. And the Afterburner is the same ignition system used in all of BPP’s Race Spec NA engine packages (including its 600+, 700+, 800+ and 900+ HP versions).
