Gallery: US Car Tool Makes Removing Your Drivetrain Too Easy

When Chrysler originally installed the drivetrain in the Mopar, they slid the power plant in from the bottom already bolted on to the K-member. So sometimes when people remove the engines, they’ll lift them out of the top or we’ve even seen some people drop the K-member and all out of the bottom right onto the ground.

What if there was a tool that allowed you to remove the drivetrain out just like the factory installed it? There is! US Car Tool makes stands with caster wheels to drop the drivetrain out and roll away. Since we needed to drop a drivetrain out of a 1968 Road Runner to repaint the engine bay, we went ahead and purchased this kit to give it a try.

USCT’s Mopar K-frame stand (USCT7M2081) fits all A-B-E bodies. Adjustable for all engines and transmissions, from Slant 6, small block, and big blocks to Hemis. No more paint scratches or chipped paint while removing panels just to remove the motor! There is some light assembly required after you receive the kit. After we had it assembled, we lined up the pins with our K-member.

With all needed wiring, exhaust, and fuel lines disconnected from the drivetrain, it was a matter of removing the four K-member bolts and lifting the car up on the lift. Engine and transmission stayed on the stand and we rolled it away for servicing. But what if you don’t have a fancy lift and you are just working in your driveway?

Above left: Shows the pad where the K-member will lay on the stand. Above middle: The K-member stand lines up with holes already in the K-member. Above right: Shows the car being hoisted up off the K-member as it rests on the stands.

US Car Tool has a tool for that as well! Uni-Lift Front End lifting tool (USCTRM1001) hooks into your engine hoist (that is no longer being used to remove the motor) and lifts the front of the car up off the ground, leaving the drivetrain on the stand. Now that the drivetrain has been removed, you can’t just leave the car on a lift or supported by the engine hoist.

US Car Tool’s Car Moving Body Wheels Set (USCT4M1001) that bolts to the frame rail connectors and allows you to set the body down to be rolled around and that is what we did. Part number USCT4M1005 works for LX body styles.

Above left: Shows the body stands with a heavy duty 8″ ball bearing caster wheel. CNC cut from heavy gauge steel with mounting holes available for bumper mounts or under side of uni body. Above right: We mounted the body stand to the under side of the frame rails to support the weight of the car.

With heavy gauge steel, we noticed these are very strong and will support the cars weight easily without bending or binding. The large 8” swivel caster wheels are surrounded with rubber to prevent any damage to your garage floor. Two 8” fixed rear caster body wheels also comes in the kit however we did not need these for our project. The rear brackets bolt onto the leaf spring mounting locations.
