PROFORM Transmission Locking Dipsticks are designed for Chrysler TorqueFlite 727 (part no. 66169 – small block and 66170 – big block) and 904 (part no. 66190) automatic transmissions used in high-horsepower, performance-modified vehicles where the factory push-in dipstick can become a weak point under racing conditions.
Above: A positive double O-ring seal at the top of the tube helps PROFORM locking dipsticks prevent transmission fluid loss through the dipstick tube under high-performance driving conditions. Shown is the TorqueFlite 727 locking dipstick for small-block Mopar applications (Part No. 66169).
Required by NHRA and IHRA regulations for vehicles running 10.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, they prevent transmission fluid from being forced out of the dipstick tube during hard acceleration.
As transmission line pressure rises during aggressive launches and high-load operation, a conventional push-in dipstick can be pushed out of the fill tube. When that occurs, hot transmission fluid may be released onto the headers, exhaust components, or the racing surface.
Above: PROFORM also offers a locking dipstick for TorqueFlite 727 transmissions behind big-block Mopar engines (Part No. 66170). NHRA and IHRA rules require a locking transmission dipstick on vehicles running 10.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile.
The consequences could include a fire hazard, reduced traction due to track contamination, mechanical damage, and possible penalties or disqualification. For that reason, a locking dipstick is a functional safety component rather than a cosmetic accessory.
The PROFORM design incorporates a precision-machined locking collar with a lever-actuated locking mechanism that securely retains the dipstick in the fill tube. Dual O-rings provide a positive seal to help prevent fluid leakage, while an integrated mounting bracket adds strength and stability. The locking assembly is engineered to withstand vibration, repeated heat cycles, and sustained high-rpm operation without loosening or backing out.
Above: For 904 TorqueFlite applications, PROFORM also offers a locking dipstick (Part No. 66190). Each locking dipstick includes a mounting bracket that secures the dipstick tube to the bellhousing for added stability.
Whether installed on a street-and-strip car, a Pro Touring build, a restomod, or a dedicated race vehicle, the PROFORM Transmission Locking Dipstick delivers dependable fluid containment, long-term durability, and compliance with racing regulations. Its practical design also contributes to a clean, professional appearance in the engine compartment.
