Video: B&M’S Precision Manual SportShifter and Transfer Case Twin Shifters

B&M Performance & Off-Road has been an industry leader in the automotive aftermarket for over 70 years. B&M specializes in performance automatic transmissions, transmission components, and quality shifters. Recently, B&M introduced the Precision Manual SportShifter (Part No. 45197) for the 2018-2022 Jeep Wrangler JL two- and four-door models and the 2020+ Jeep Gladiator truck with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Above Left: The Precision Manual SportShifter is a perfect replacement for the factory shifter. It comes fully assembled and ready to install. Above Right: The shifter works with the factory shifter boot and has a lockout slider to prevent unwanted reverse actuation.

The SportShifter assembly comprises a 303 stainless steel stick attached to an anodized aluminum pivot. The installation of the SportShifter reduces the shifter throw by roughly 18% over the factory shifter while providing an assured, more confident feel during gear shifting. Furthermore, the B&M SportShifter allows the factory leather shift boot to be reused. The boot attaches to the black anodized aluminum lockout slider, which provides a positive and smooth reverse-gear actuation.

Above Left: The B&M SportShifter comes with a black shift knob ball that includes the shift pattern and a pair of B&M logos. Above Right: The shifter looks factory, but the B&M unit is more precise in its engagement and provides a shorter shift throw.

To cap the shifter handle, B&M includes a black round shift knob with the shift pattern engraved on top and B&M symbols on each side. All the logos are highlighted in red to match either Jeep’s interior. The SportShifter is a direct fit to the original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM) shifter cables. B&M includes all the necessary hardware and an instruction guide to permit a trouble-free installation.

With the SportShifter installed, the handle of the factory transfer case shifter will look bland. Luckily, B&M has developed a Billet Extended Transfer Case Handle and Shift Knob (Part No. 81173), constructed of a CNC Billet 6061 aluminum. The transfer case handle will fit the same JL and Gladiator Jeeps.

Above Left: B&M developed the Billet Extended Transfer Case Handle and Shift Knob to match the SportShifter. It has the four-wheel drive shift pattern and B&M logos. Above Right: While attractive, the Transfer Case Handle has the designed-in functions of increased leverage and reduced shift effort.

In addition, the new shifter handle features improved geometry that relocates the handle to a more ergonomic location compared to the factory handle. As a result of the improved handle location, the driver has increased leverage and reduced effort to shift into and out of the two- and four-wheel driving ranges.

The transfer case handle has the same stylish appearance as the shifter handle and features the same style black anodized finish with red accents. On top of the shifter knob are a four-wheel drive shifter pattern and a pair of B&M logos on located on each side. B&M has included the hardware and instructions to install the transfer case shifter. Both shifters have a lifetime limited warranty; each part is emissions-legal in all 50 states.

Above: The B&M transfer case shift lever attaches to the factory boot, and the black/red color combination matches the interior colors perfectly.

The installation of both shifters should not take more than a few hours on a Saturday afternoon, and the result of that labor will be a much more stylish interior with increased functionality. For more information, check out the B&M online for all its latest components.
