Squeezing more power out of a modern vehicle continues to get more and more difficult. Factory locked PCMs can make custom tuning a nightmare. Luckily, innovative companies like DiabloSport are tackling those obstacles head-on and finding ways to get their hot-rodding customers the performance they desire.
One good example of that is the recently-introduced Pulsar for the 2018-2019 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.6L (P/N 42451) and 2020 Jeep Gladiator JT 3.6L (P/N 42452). Introduced in 2018, the Pulsar is a piggyback-type module that unlocks performance and tuning potential without requiring a troublesome PCM swap. A recent video showed just how simple installation is and the many features Pulsar can unlock.
Each kit includes the Pulsar module, a mounting bracket, hardware, and an instruction booklet. Flat head and Phillips screwdrivers, 3/8” and 1/2” ratchets, 8mm and 10mm sockets, and a 10mm wrench are all that are needed for installation. Just unhook the battery, remove the stock air intake, remove the factory PCM, mount the Pulsar on the PCM, replace the factory bracket, and put everything back together in reverse order.
Tuning is the final step. All configuration options can be viewed on the dash display and modifications are made with the steering wheel controls and gas pedal. The Pulsar has four performance levels (Economy, Performance, Stock, Tow), adjusts throttle response, can hold the auto stop/start setting, turn the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) on or off, and compensate for gear ratio or tire size changes. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon of wrenching.
