Most of us are well aware of Mopar and classic car sage, Steve Magnante – whether serving as our guide through countless junkyards, a regular columnist of Hot Rod Magazine or countless other appearances, “Magneto Steve” is a character within our community that we’ve all come to love.
Unfortunately, Steve was hit pretty hard with a medical emergency last year that put him in a chemically-induced coma and a battery of treatments. Thankfully, Steve pulled through and is back on his feet but not without some side-effects, and most damaging, a pretty hefty pile of medical bills.
This debt has caused Steve to rapidly sell pretty much everything he owns – including his house and his project cars. In the video attached below, Steve walks us around his 1962 Dodge Dart police car project that he’s sadly having to offload to cover his costs. If such a car is of interest to you, watch the video below and reach out, because he’s ready to move it.
The Dart itself is in pretty cherry condition, having been saved from a private collection auction in Texas a few years back. The Dart comes with everything to piece together a solid powertrain (440, 727 auto) and has all the makings of being a really unique sleeper. Steve loves these early B-bodies, particularly the altered wheelbase cars – but that’s another topic.
Otherwise, if you’d love to pitch in to help Steve but don’t need anything in return, a GoFundMe has been setup to help Mr. Magnante to offer any assistance. At the time of this writing he’s already up to $71,000 of his $100,000 goal but it’s likely he’s going to need every dime of that six figure goal.
Times are tight for everyone right now [insert political comment here] so it’s great that the Mopar community can rally around a genuinely good guy whose done so much solid work to get the word about about Mopars of every ilk. Again, even if you want to donate $20 to help Steve pay off his medical bills and maybe keep a roof over his head, donate here.
