Video: Silver Sport Transmissions Talks Tremec TRX

TREMEC’s new TKX 5-speed is taking the aftermarket transmission world by storm and the experts at Silver Sport Transmissions (SST) are all over it with details aplenty. This totally redesigned gearbox features a slew of upgrades over its predecessor, the TKO, but what does any of that mean for the end user?

Jeff Kauffman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, went top to bottom and front to back in a recent video to explain. “The newest feature is the compact size,” he says. With a more rounded upper case area, it should be much more conducive to transmission tunnel fitment compared to the TKO’s bulkier shoulders. Mopar A and B-bodies will still require some “massaging,” but it should be a no-cut fit for E-bodies.

Actually, since the TKX is a direct replacement for the TKO, all of the existing Mopar PerfectFit™ kits are available. “For the Mopar builds, we do use the Ford version of the TKX,” Jeff notes. Not to worry, though, as SST offers a variety of bellhousings to mate with most Mopar motors.

Straight out of the box, it weighs in at just 99 pounds and has two shifter positions available. What makes buying from SST different is that they’re able to design custom adapters in house. “We do offer about 25 unique shifter locations for the TKX just like we do a TKO so, whatever you have, we have you covered on shifter position,” says Jeff. Shipments aren’t expected to start until late November or early December, but SST is taking pre-orders now.
