If you’ve been paying attention to any of the Goodguys autocross events, it’s likely that you’ve seen one of Smitty’s Custom Automotive‘s wild builds. Specializing in classic Chevrolets, Smitty’s full-fendered ’70 Camaro is the shop’s winningest race car followed by a 1987 Camaro, a C3 Corvette and C10 pickup; but don’t fret Mopar enthusiasts, Smitty’s has shown interest and expertise in the finer brands.
Top-tier performance chassis and suspension manufacturer, Speedtech Performance took a day after the Columbus, Ohio Goodguys event to pop in and tour Smitty’s Tiffin location, which happens to be tucked deeply away among the farm fields and treerows. Occupying 25,000 square feet, Smitty’s race shop and fabrication facility not only cranks out wicked race cars but custom builds for a variety of customers.
Exclusive for their YouTube channel, Speedtech takes you through each of their current projects, gives you a glimpse at Smitty’s history of building these cars, and even walks you around a couple of future projects that are in various stages of completion. It’s a great look at how these high level shops operate and more importantly, cooperate with major aftermarket manufacturers to produce performance products.
