Braided hose originated in the early 1900s as a more durable option for aerospace applications. Titeflex, one of the early developers, marketed their “armored with braided steel strip” hose as “dependable tubing for all service.”
At the time, hard copper piping was still common and noted as a lackluster choice for vibration-intense uses like internal combustion engines. Years later, early hot rodders noticed the same things and “borrowed” braided hose technology for go-fast functions.
Nowadays, while some prefer stainless steel braided plumbing purely for its beauty, it still serves a purpose further than fashion. In fact, braided hose benefits have been found to include increased durability, heat dissipation, and temperature resistance when compared to regular ol’ rubber.
