Just when you thought “the Hemi was dead” (or at least, you heard what all of the doomsday curmudgeons on YouTube had to say), Energy Manufacturing just released the officially licensed-by-Mopar all aluminum Gen III Hemi Hellephant and Drag Pak engine blocks.
Yup, you’re looking at not one, but two cast aluminum Hemi blocks that can be purchased directly from Energy Manufacturing (Callies Performance Products‘ sister company out of Fremont, Ohio) or through Direct Connection itself. (Prices aren’t listed yet.)
So what are the differences? The Drag Pak Hemi block is machined to accept the 6.1L timing drive, the larger 60mm RB cam bore and hefty .937″ keyway lifter bushings and can come with fat 1/2-inch head studs if so desired. Again, this is to meet all Drag Pak/NHRA requirements.
The cast aluminum Hellephant engine block isn’t so restricted and is cut to accept all 6.2 and 6.4 timing drives (with a VCT solenoid), retains the factory cam bore and .842″ lifter bores and pattern; and is delivered with 4.120-inch “unfinished” bores. You’re also getting 4140 q/t billet main caps (4-bolt M1 and M5, 6-bolt on M2-M4).
If ordering a Hellephant was out of your price range, or you were interested in building your own lightweight, big bore, big boost Gen III after your own design, then this aluminum engine block is your perfect starting point. Together with Callies‘ many options for cranks and connecting rods, you’ve got nearly everything you need to build a badass bottom end.
