Dodge has announced that 2024 will be the “final calendar year of V8 Hemi engine production for the Dodge Durango”. No one likes to hear about the end of the Hemi engines in yet another model, but the good news is that the 710-horsepower SRT Hellcat package is still available for 2024, along with packages featuring the 5.7- and 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engines. There will also be a series of Last Call models for the Durango, with the first one being the SRT 392 AlcHEMI and promise of some Hellcat-based special edition packages coming later this year.
“Just as we did with the Dodge Charger and Challenger, it’s time to celebrate the V-8 HEMI engine that has powered Dodge domination of the performance SUV segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer – Stellantis. “Special-edition ‘Last Call’ models of the Durango will roll out during 2024 as we honor the most powerful SUV ever.”
2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI
Dodge will build just 1,000 examples of the 2024 Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI, with 250 in each of the four available colors – Diamond Black, Destroyer Gray, Vapor Gray and White Knuckle. All models are powered by the 392 cubic inch Hemi, delivering 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with the help of an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive.
The AlcHEMI package starts on the outside with 20×10-inch Satin Black forged SRT wheels, yellow Brembo brake calipers, Satin Black 392 fender badges with yellow accents, Honeycomb-textured dual exterior stripes with yellow-accent borders, black exhaust tips and Midnight Metallic grille and liftgate badges.
On the inside, the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI features unique yellow and silver stitching throughout the cabin, tan embroidered 392 logo on the seatbacks, a leather-and-suede steering wheel with the white LED backlit SRT logo and carbon fiber accents on the dashboard and door panels.
These special edition Dodge Durango models are expected to begin arriving in dealerships in May. The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 AlcHEMI package has an MSRP (in the United States) of $3,595, in addition to the MSRP of the SRT 392 Premium model. The SRT 392 Premium starts at $86,200, so before destination, the price of this special edition package should start around $89,795.
Full Details on the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is relatively unchanged from the current model year, and that is a good thing. The heart of this beast is the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8, which sends 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque towards all four wheels by means of an 8-speed automatic transmission and an advanced, performance-tuned all-wheel-drive system.
Since there have been no other SUVs offered with comparable power in the past year, these figures allow the Durango Hellcat to maintain the title of the world’s most powerful SUV, but they also make this full-sized hauler incredibly quick – sprinting from a stop to 60 in just 3.5 seconds and getting to the quarter mile stripe in just 11.5 seconds.
The Hellcat SUV will hit a top speed of 180 miles per hour on a long, straight stretch of road, but it will also out-handle some sports cars thanks to the Bilstein adaptive suspension and massive Brembo brakes. Best of all, those Bilstein dampers can offer a smooth ride for daily driving at the push of a virtual button on the 10.1-inch infotainment screen.
That screen also offers access to most settings inside and outside of the vehicle while proving the driver with a great view of the navigation map, the HVAC settings or what is playing through the 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system of the Hellcat Premium models.
The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is available in three trim levels – the standard SRT Hellcat, the SRT Hellcat Plus or the SRT Hellcat Premium. The standard model comes with black leather-and-suede seats and a more basic sound system, but you still get the big brakes, the adaptive suspension, the 710-horsepower Hemi and the UConnect 5 tech with the 10.1-inch screen.
Buyers who opt for the Durango SRT Hellcat Plus get Laguna leather in Demonic Red, the Trailer Tow Group, the power sunroof and the advanced safety features including Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brake Assist, Rainsense windshield wipers and Lane Departure Warning. When you step up to the Hellcat Premium, you get those Plus items along with red seatbelts, a leather-wrapped instrument panel carbon fiber interior trim and the aforementioned 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
A six-passenger configuration is standard in the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, featuring second-row captain’s chairs and 50/50 third row split seats, but for buyers who opt for the Lightweight Performance Package, the third row is removed and the second row captain’s chairs are replaced by a 60/40 split bench, leading to five-passenger seating rather than six.
The only real change for the 2024 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is that Vapor Grey is no longer offered, but DB Black, Destroyer Grey, Frostbite, Night Moves, Red Oxide, Octane Red, Triple Nickel and White Knuckle all return for the new model year. The wheel design also carries over from 2023, with 20-inch wheels featuring black painted pockets and a machined silver face.
5.7 & 6.4-liter Models
The 5.7-liter Hemi is standard in the 2024 Dodge Durango R/T and it is optional in Citadel models. That engine delivers 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive in the Durango R/T. In the Citadel models, you can get either rear- or all-wheel-drive.
The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 comes standard with the 6.4-liter Hemi discussed above with the AlcHEMI Last Call package. The 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive are standard with all 392 models.
