The latest iteration of HP Tuners’ multi-purpose vehicle interface has arrived in the form of the MPVI2+. As the hardware portion of HP Tuners’ comprehensive OBDII diagnostic, scanning, logging, tuning, and calibration solution, the MPVI2+ features a slew of updates over its predecessor, the MPVI2, for a totality of functionality that is almost unmatched in the aftermarket.
Most of the MPVI2+ upgrades revolve around connection methods which are faster and more numerous to allow for data collection at high rates of speed and accuracy. A screw-on, 4-pin M8 connector gives users a motorsports grade port with the ability to pipe in two analog and one CAN signal for a truly rich data-log when paired with the Pro Feature Set.
Bluetooth 5.0 technology is able to support select iOS and Android applications while a much quicker USB-C port transmits data at 4 MB/sec instead of .33 MB/sec for a 12x improvement. Device and Bluetooth connection statuses are conveyed via red/green/blue (RGB) LEDs right on the front of the molded housing.
Tunes can still be read, saved, and edited without a license through use of HP Tuners’ proprietary VCM Suite. However, writing any files to a controller requires marrying a license or licenses to that specific PCM, ECM, VCM, or TCM. A full list of supported vehicles is available online to confirm functionality and number of credits required.
MPVI or MPVI2 owners can upgrade to MPVI2+ standards by shipping their current interface to HP Tuners. If you can afford the short wait on turnaround time, it’s a great way to stay up on the latest hardware without breaking the bank.
