Time and again, the team at Blackbird Performance Products has proven that the G3 Hemi platform is stout. Their repeated use of off-the-shelf parts in builds surpassing 800 horsepower and nearing 8,000 RPM has demonstrated that the OEM valvetrain with roller hydraulic lifters, plastic retaining trays, and non-adjustable rockers is especially rugged.
But what about the guys that want a get a little more rowdy? Enter the new solid lifter package (P/N BBP-032-16). Featuring sixteen brand-new solid tappets and four aluminum retaining trays, Blackbird designed these to pair with their Mach 4 camshaft (P/N BBP-011-004) to reliably and cost-effectively unlock 9,000 RPM capabilities.
You can be sure that they’ve been put through the wringer; test setups have seen 60+ dyno runs, 100+ dirt track laps, and a great many quarter-mile passes. “These are a more robust larger diameter needle bearing fed by twin oiling passages and in the solid cam profiles we have run, this type of system (actually a similar but less robust system) has held up very well,” says Blackbird head Geoff Turk.
Compatible rocker arms are currently limited to pieces from T&D and Jesel, but Blackbird’s own much more affordable adjustable rockers should be available later this year. For a limited time, introductory pricing on the solid lifter setup is $999, but don’t expect that to last long. The first production run of lifters is expected to arrive mid-summer so get in line now to reserve your spot on the tachometer at 9,000 RPM.
